Rwizi Track in Lake Mburo - Nature Walks, River Views & Wildlife Safaris

Follow the path of beauty in Lake Mburo National Park by exploring the Rwizi Track, which leads to wide views of the wild landscape. This track is a hidden route that follows River Rwizi.

The river begins in the hills of Buhweju and flows through the districts of Isingiro, Ntungamo, Mbarara, Lyantonde, and Rakai before reaching Lake Victoria.

River Rwizi is one of the oldest rivers in Ankole, flowing into several smaller channels before reaching the lake. Its water is used for both home and industrial purposes.

The Ankole area is well known for its long-horned cattle, a breed once believed to have special powers and only kept by royal families. Today, these cattle are raised by the Bahima people. The size and health of the cattle depend on how much food and water they are given.

River Rwizi is a quiet tourist spot that is not visited by many people, making it a good place for visitors who enjoy peace and calm. The Rwizi Track is often divided into two shifts to give everyone a chance to enjoy it.

The first hike starts early in the morning and begins with a short briefing on how to behave during the walk. Before joining the trail, make sure to carry a water bottle, snacks, a raincoat, light clothing, sunglasses, binoculars, and a first aid kit. The walk takes you to different key places around the river.

The second hike may take place in the afternoon, led by an armed ranger who ensures the safety of both visitors and animals. During the walk, you may see animals and many birds with different colors along the river and nearby areas.

Rwizi Track is affected by climate change, so it is better to visit during the dry season when all parts of the trail are easier to reach, including the river. Keep in mind that many people visit the park, which can cause prices to go up, especially for accommodation.

However, the park offers different options such as budget, midrange, and luxury, so every visitor can find something suitable. Entry fees and activity prices usually stay the same.

Enjoy your safari on the Rwizi Track in Lake Mburo National Park.
