Ruroko Track in Lake Mburo - Cultural Encounters, Wildlife & Fishing

During your walk on the Ruroko Track, you can visit traditional healers who are based in the park area. You will also see the long-horned cattle, which are highly valued by the Ankole people.

In the past, these cattle were believed to be linked to divine powers and were only kept by royal families. Today, even ordinary families raise them.

If you visit early in the morning, you can help with taking care of the cattle or even join in milking them. This is a special activity that many visitors enjoy, and you are welcome to take photos or videos to remember it.

At the end of the day, you may also enjoy local music, dance, and drama performed in the village center. This brings joy and creates a good connection between the local people and visitors.

Game drives are well organized, making it easy to explore the park. Scientists say that Lake Mburo sits on ancient Precambrian metamorphic rocks and sculpted landforms, with nearby hills that are about 500 million years old. Apart from this, the park is also home to many mammals and birds, especially around the large wetlands.

Uganda has four Savannah national parks. These include Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kidepo Valley National Park, Murchison Falls National Park, and Lake Mburo National Park.

In Lake Mburo, you can see some of the shortest Savannah grasslands, filled with many wild animals. These range from herbivores, which eat plants, to carnivores that depend on meat to survive.

You can also find reptiles and water animals near the lakes and rivers.

Tourists often enjoy sport fishing in the park. Fish caught include tilapia, catfish, tiger fish, and others. However, you are advised to carry your own fishing gear, as the park does not provide any.

You must also get a fishing permit, which can be obtained from the park headquarters or the Uganda Wildlife Authority.
