Photography Safaris in Lake Mburo - Wildlife, Landscapes & Lodges

The small park in western Uganda offers many experiences, including wildlife viewing and photography. These can be done during game drives, nature walks, and boat cruises. During your photography trip, you may capture animals like buffaloes, topis, warthogs, reedbucks, bush pigs, and over 350 bird species.

While taking photos, always respect other people’s privacy, as some may not want their pictures taken. It is also important to carry extra batteries so you do not miss any moments.

Lake Mburo is a favorite for many photographers because it is small and easy to access. This makes it possible to explore a large area in a short time. The park has beautiful lake views, with sunrise and sunset reflecting on the papyrus reeds and water.

Some of the best scenes to photograph include zebras in the savannah, elands, and birdlife in the marshes. Top photography spots in the park include the shores of Lake Mburo, Rwamahungu Hill, Kazuma Lookout Point, and Rubanga Forest. These places give you great chances to take memorable photos.

Lake Mburo also provides comfort after a long day of photography. There are many accommodation options, and the cost will depend on your budget. Choices include budget, midrange, and luxury lodges. Budget options are affordable and still offer good service. Some lodges in the area include Montana Luxury Tented Camp, Arcadia Lodge, Mihingo Lodge, Rwakobo Rock Lodge, Lake Mburo Safari Lodge, and Emburara Lodge.

The park can be reached by road, with a drive of about three to four hours from Kampala or Entebbe. This route connects you to the main gates of the park. These include Kyanyanshara Gate near Mihingo Lodge and Akagate Gate, which leads to Rwakobo Rock Lodge. Transport costs usually include vehicle hire per day, guide fees per day, and fuel for the whole trip. These costs can be shared among your travel group.

There is also air transport, often used by visitors on a luxury trip. You can book a charter or scheduled flight from Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi. It is advised to book early, as flight routes depend on the number of travelers, destinations, and weather. The flight takes about 45 minutes to land at Mbarara Airstrip, and from there, you drive to Lake Mburo National Park.
