Walking Safaris in Lake Mburo National Park – Guided Nature Walks in Uganda

Walking Safaris in Lake Mburo National Park - Guided Nature Walks in Uganda

Walking Safaris in Lake Mburo – Lake Mburo National Park covers about 370 square kilometers and is surrounded by thick vegetation. The park is a good place for walking safaris because it is small, close to Kampala, and has no lions. You can explore the park on foot and enjoy the natural sounds of birds and animals.

The best time to visit Lake Mburo for walking safaris is during the dry seasons from June to August and December to February. During this time, the trails are dry, and it is easier to see wildlife because the plants are not too thick. Many animals also gather around water sources. Walking safaris are led by trained guides and armed rangers. They help you learn more about the animals and plants in the park and keep you safe. These guides also know where animals were last seen and how they behave, which makes it easier to spot them. Since this is the busy season, it is good to book early.

Morning walks between 7:00 am and 9:00 am are best because the weather is still cool. You may see buffaloes, zebras, and antelopes grazing. Evening walks take place from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. There are also night walks from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, which give you a chance to see animals like leopards and hyenas. Most animals hide during the hot afternoon hours. You can carry a headlamp to help you see at night.

Walking safari fees are 40 USD per person for foreign non-residents, 20 USD per person for foreign residents, and 20,000 UGX per person for East African citizens.

The Rubanga Forest walk is great for bird watchers. You may see Ross’s turaco, red-headed lovebird, bare-faced go-away-bird, and double-toothed barbet. The forest also offers shaded paths and views of the lake. The Kazuma trail is a good place to see topis, waterbucks, and impalas. You can also walk to the lake shores to look for hippos, crocodiles, African finfoot, and African fish eagles. The Rwonyo trail leads to the salt licks, where animals like antelopes and elands come to drink mineral-rich water and lick the salty soil.

For your walking safari, pack comfortable hiking shoes, binoculars, light-colored clothes, a reusable water bottle, sunscreen, insect repellent, a camera, a hat, and a small backpack for snacks and personal items.

Walking safaris in Lake Mburo can be enjoyed at any time of the year. The park offers many activities for nature lovers, bird watchers, and wildlife enthusiasts.
