Park Entry Fees and Penalties for Lake Mburo – Lake Mburo is located in western Uganda. It is the smallest national park in the country and is the closest one to Kampala. The park is home to many animals, with over 68 species of mammals and 350 bird species. To enter the park, visitors must pay an entry fee, which is collected by the Uganda Wildlife Authority.
When you arrive, you must show a valid ID or passport. This helps the staff know whether you are a foreign non-resident, a foreign resident, or an East African citizen so they can charge the correct fee. After payment, you will be given a park entry permit at either Sanga Gate or Nshara Gate, and you can then enter the park.
The park entry fee is valid for 24 hours from the time you pay. Children under 5 years old enter for free. Entry fees for adults and children are different.
- Foreign non-resident adults pay 40 USD per person.
- Foreign residents pay 30 USD per person.
- East African citizens pay 20,000 UGX per person.
- Children aged 5 to 15 years pay 20 USD for foreign non-residents, 10 USD for foreign residents, and 5,000 UGX for East African citizens.
Vehicles are also charged an entry fee.
- Saloon cars are charged 40 USD for foreign non-residents, 10 USD for foreign residents, and 20,000 UGX for East African citizens.
- 4×4 vehicles and tour company vehicles are charged 150 USD for foreign non-residents, 15 USD for foreign residents, and 30,000 UGX for East African citizens.
- Motorcycles are charged 30 USD for foreign non-residents, 5 USD for foreign residents, and 10,000 UGX for East African citizens.
- School buses for East African citizens are charged 50,000 UGX.
If you stay in the park longer than 24 hours, you will be charged for an extra day.
Lake Mburo has rules that all visitors must follow. These rules help to protect the animals, plants, and environment of the park. There are penalties if the rules are broken:
- Littering in the park is fined 10,000 UGX per incident.
- Driving faster than 40 km/h in the park is fined 100,000 UGX.
- If an animal is accidentally killed, the fine is 50 USD per animal.
- Driving off the marked trails is fined 150 USD.
- Poaching is a serious crime. It can lead to up to 10 years in prison or a fine of 50 million UGX.
Park entry fees can also be paid yearly depending on the visitor’s status. However, all visitors must follow the park rules to avoid fines and penalties.
