Lake Mburo National Park is located in western Uganda between Masaka and Mbarara towns. The park is managed by the Uganda Wildlife Authority, which has set rules that visitors must follow to help protect the wildlife and the environment.
Below are the rules for Lake Mburo National Park:
- The park is open from 7 am to 6:30 pm. Visitors going for night game drives must be with a guide to enter the park after closing time.
- Do not litter in the park. Use the bins provided. If you cannot find one, keep your litter with you. Litter can harm animals if they eat it.
- Do not hoot or make loud noises. This disturbs the animals.
- Drive at a speed limit of 40 km/h or less to avoid hitting animals.
- Do not bring pets such as dogs into the park.
- Keep your entry tickets and receipts for park activities. You may be asked to show them at different checkpoints.
- Do not pick plants from the park. This harms the ecosystem.
- Always wear a life jacket and do not stand overboard while on a boat cruise.
- Stay on the marked roads and tracks. Do not drive off-track to avoid damaging animal habitats.
- Camping and campfires are only allowed in the designated areas.
- Do not feed animals or birds.
- Do not carry weapons, fireworks, or drones into the park. A special permit from the Uganda Wildlife Authority is needed to use a drone.
- Use only red-filtered lights during night game drives. Bright lights scare the animals.
- You must be with a park ranger when going for a nature walk. Do not wear bright colours, and always stay on the marked trails.
- Always give animals the right of way. Do not block their path.
- Do not use flash photography near animals, as it disturbs them.
- Smoking is not allowed anywhere in the park.
- Ask for permission from local people before taking their photos during cultural tours or village walks.
These rules are meant to protect both visitors and the wildlife. Breaking any of them may result in penalties.
