Kigambira Loop Activities & Lodges in Lake Mburo National Park

Kigambira Loop is located within Lake Mburo National Park in Kiruhura District, northwest of Mwenza. The best time to visit this area is during the dry season when the paths are dry and easy to walk on. During the rainy season, the area becomes muddy and difficult for visitors.

After a long day of adventure, you can rest at some of the comfortable lodges nearby. These include Mihingo Lodge, Kigambira Safari Lodge, Lake Mburo Safari Lodge, Arcadia Cottages, Eagle’s Nest Lodge, Rwakobo Rock, and many others.

The trail is near Lake Kigambira and Rubanga Forest. It takes you through some of the most beautiful parts of the park. Visitors usually join organized activities by park staff, such as game drives. These drives run in shifts to suit different visitors and take you to plains and plateaus where you can see over 68 types of mammals. These include zebras, buffaloes, waterbucks, impalas, and oribis.

Boat trips are another popular activity. They take you to the lake, where you can try sport fishing. After the boat cruise, you can enjoy hiking in the area and try fishing in the small nearby lakes.

The park also offers visits to local villages. Here, you can admire the traditional homes, taste local food, and enjoy music and drama performances if you are quick to learn.

After the village visit, you can go bird watching. This activity requires silence and care, especially if you want to take photos. Use cameras without flash, as birds are sensitive to light. Lake Mburo is home to many birds, including shoebill stork, African finfoot, red-faced barbet, blue-spotted wood dove, yellow-throated longclaw, common squacco, black crake, black-headed heron, Nubian woodpecker, bare-faced go-away bird, and others.

Horseback riding is a lively activity in the Kigambira Loop. Tourists explore much of the area on horses, spotting buffaloes, zebras, warthogs, and waterbucks along the way. This activity requires experienced riders who can control their horses well. Trained rangers lead the rides to ensure everyone’s safety and guide the correct paths.
