Lake Mburo Waterhole Safaris & Wildlife Viewing Activities

The waterholes of Lake Mburo are important places for watching wild animals. Here, you can see groups of hippos, buffaloes, zebras, oribis, leopards, topis, hyenas, defassa, and over 350 bird species.

These animals often come to the waterholes during the dry season, which lasts from June to August and December to February.

Lake Mburo can be visited all year round because all seasons offer chances to see wildlife. During the dry season, animals gather near salt licks, rivers, and waterholes. In the wet season, you can find many animals in the open valleys.

Lake Mburo National Park is full of great activities. Nature walks are offered anywhere in the park. You can also enjoy bird watching, which needs quiet because birds are very sensitive.

Some birds you may see include the grey crowned crane, batelear, coqui francolin, African finfoot—a special bird with bright orange bills and legs, and the African fish eagle, the largest eagle found in sub-Saharan Africa.

Other birds include the bare-faced go-away bird, black-collared barbet, black-headed gonolek, blue-breasted kingfisher, blue-headed coucal, brown-chested lapwing, greater painted snipe, yellow-rumped tinkerbird, double-toothed barbets, and many more.

Photography lovers will enjoy capturing forest gorges, ridges, papyrus swamps, and riparian woodlands, creating memories that last forever. Game drives are also popular for those who prefer not to walk.

These drives happen in shifts—one in the morning and one in the evening—and offer many wonderful sights.

You cannot leave Lake Mburo without trying horse riding. This quiet activity is guided to keep you safe and gives you a chance to film as you enjoy the views. Boat cruises are also popular for visitors of all ages.

They take you to hidden parts of the park while you float on the water, making your visit feel like a dream come true.
