Nature Walks in Lake Mburo National Park – Lake Mburo National Park is found in western Uganda, between the towns of Masaka and Mbarara. It is home to many animal species and offers visitors a chance to enjoy guided nature walks through the park.
The best time for nature walks is during the dry season from June to August and December to February. During this time, the walking trails are easier to use, and animals gather around water points.
Nature walks usually take between 1 to 3 hours. They are best done early in the morning between 7 am and 9 am when the animals are more active and the weather is cooler. Walks can also be done in the late afternoon from 4 pm to 7 pm.
Lakeside walks give visitors a chance to see hippos and crocodiles as they return to the water. You may also see birds like kingfishers and herons and enjoy the views of Lake Mburo. Animals like impalas, zebras, and elands are often seen along the Rwonyo salt lick trail, where they go to lick mineral-rich rocks.
Guided walks in Rubanga Forest are also available. The forest is home to many bird species such as the red-faced barbet, green pigeon, and Narina trogon. Visitors may also see different plants, butterflies, giraffes, hippos, and primates like olive baboons and red vervet monkeys. It is good to book your walk early through the park office or your lodge.
Hiking to the top of the hills gives visitors a wide view of nine regions of the 14 lakes inside and around the park. This is a good place for a picnic and to enjoy the views of the park. Walking trails through the woodlands and open grasslands also offer chances to see more birds and animals.
For the nature walk, carry binoculars, sun protection, a camera with extra batteries, drinking water, snacks, comfortable hiking shoes, and light clothes in calm colors.
Nature walks cost 40 USD per person for foreign non-residents, 25 USD per person for foreign residents, and 20,000 UGX per person for East African citizens.
Lake Mburo National Park is a good place to enjoy nature walks and explore the wildlife on foot.
