Rock Climbing at Rwakobo Rock - Adventure, Culture & Safari Stay

Rock climbing may seem like a tiring activity, but it is one of the most enjoyable and creative experiences. At Rwakobo Rock, it is combined with cultural visits, giving guests a chance to take part in the local Bahima culture. Depending on your arrival time, you may get the opportunity to join in the milking activity.

The area has many large fig trees, which attract many birds to the hill. These birds make the view even more interesting. Some of the birds you may see include green pigeons, parrots, red-faced barbets, and sometimes even a shoebill.

The area near Lake Mburo has good rock climbing spots. Many of the rocks are scrambles, so it is a good idea to ask locals for the best places for bouldering, top rope, or traditional climbing. Nearby is Rwakobo Rock Lodge, which opened in August 2017. It has eight climbing routes of different lengths. For beginners, some routes are between 4 to 12 meters long. More sports climbing routes were planned to reduce bouldering difficulties.

Other nearby areas, like the “monkey tent,” could also be developed for climbing if allowed by the landowners. If cleared, this space could benefit both the park and the community.

One challenge faced by people staying at the lodges in this area is the presence of baboons. These animals often steal food and other items. If you walk through the woods, you might find things they have taken.

Rwakobo Rock is an eco-friendly lodge managed by a local family with a strong interest in tourism. It is located on a rocky outcrop at the edge of Lake Mburo and gives visitors nice views of the area. The lodge has an infinity swimming pool, a bar, a restaurant, and other facilities. Some of the services and amenities include mosquito nets, laundry service, private balconies, non-smoking rooms, and family rooms.

You can enjoy climbing a gently raised rock platform that is suitable for the whole family. The climb usually takes about two to three hours and is done with the help of a tour guide who will lead you on the right paths.

Rock climbing at Rwakobo Rock is a rewarding and memorable experience.
