Detailed Uganda Gorillas & Wildlife Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Kampala to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
On the first day of your 4-day Uganda Gorillas & Lake Mburo Tour, you will leave Kampala at 7:00 am after breakfast for an 8-hour drive.
You will travel to the southwestern part of Uganda to reach Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
The drive is enjoyable as you pass through the countryside with banana and coffee plantations, Ankole long-horned cattle, and green hills.
You will stop in Mbarara town for lunch and rest, then continue through the Kigezi highlands. Later in the day, you will arrive at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, which is home to many rare animals, including the famous mountain gorillas.
Day 2: Gorilla Tracking & Optional Visit to the Batwa Community
Start the day with breakfast and remember to carry a packed lunch from the lodge. Bring drinking water, a camera, sunglasses, strong shoes, a rain jacket, long trousers, and gloves.
Your guide will take you to the park office for a short briefing. You will meet other trekkers and start the trek at 8:00 am.
With help from park rangers, you will go into the forest to find a group of gorillas. The trek may last from 2 to 8 hours, depending on where the gorillas are that day. They move around often while looking for food and water.
Seeing gorillas in their natural home is a special experience. You might see a silverback protecting its family, mothers feeding babies, or young gorillas playing. You can take photos during your one hour with them.
After the trek, return to the lodge. If there is time in the evening, you may take a walk to visit the Batwa community and learn about their way of life. Later, have dinner and spend the night at the lodge.
Day 3: Bwindi to Lake Mburo National Park
After breakfast, leave Bwindi and drive to Lake Mburo National Park. This park is home to many animals, including antelopes, zebras, hippos, buffaloes, warthogs, and birds. You will pass through Mbarara town and may see long-horned cattle along the way.
Stop for lunch at Igongo Country Hotel. Then continue to the park, check in at the lodge, and enjoy an optional evening game drive or boat trip, depending on the time you arrive.
Day 4: Boat Cruise & Return to Kampala
After breakfast, go for a boat ride on Lake Mburo. You will see smaller lakes like Lake Bwa and Lake Kazuma. Watch for animals like buffaloes, hippos, and crocodiles along the water’s edge.
You may also see birds such as crested cranes, saddle-billed storks, Abyssinian ground hornbills, and others.
After the boat ride, return to the lodge and relax at the bar or swimming pool. Have lunch, then say goodbye to the park and begin your journey back to Kampala.
On the way, stop at the equator for photos and buy some crafts at nearby shops. You will arrive in Kampala in the evening, marking the end of your 4-day Uganda safari.
